Hi Sarah...
You have a lovely rhododendron. I might suggest pruning the upper section at the crotch and applying some organic Holly Tone around the base of the shrub and water it in after applying. What i am not certain about is whether the plant is receiving light at an equal rate which might be causing it to not fill in properly. Yearly Holly Tone may be of help to it.
