Since becoming a member in 2013, I have learned so much from experienced gardeners in this group. I love being around people who are as passionate about plants and growing things as I am.

Hillsborough Garden Club is my link to the community. I live on the outside of town and travel frequently so HGC activities keep me connected to the events and people that make our town great.

Sharing the Bloom

Bouquets are created from our member's flower gardens and donated to Senior Centers, Assisted Living, and a variety of Community Events.

It is very meaningful to me to belong to the Hillsborough Garden Club because my grandmother, Virginia Cates, was an early member of the HGC.

Both “GinGin” and my mother, Virginia “Peggy” Cates Bartow, had ‘green thumbs!’  I do not.

So, in honor of GinGin and Peggy, I joined HGC to learn about gardening, to meet wonderful, interesting, new friends and to help my beloved Hillsborough community.

Having moved to North Carolina from California, I needed insights and ideas for adapting to the challenges of red clay soil and high humidity. In addition to the impressive collective knowledge of the members, the Hillsborough Garden Club has provided excellent ongoing education at their monthly meetings. Membership in the HGC has been the best local investment in my garden.

I joined the Hillsborough garden club about 18 years ago to meet other gardeners, and to be able to help the town of Hillsborough through our volunteer efforts.  Over the years I have learned many new things, met dozens of new and interesting people, and am able to see how the Hillsborough Garden Club adds much to our town throughout the entire year.

Ever since my husband and I arrived in Hillsborough, I have learned about the importance of a sustainable relationship with our land and waterways, community-oriented collaboration, and creating an attractive pollinating garden. I have benefited from the programs of the Hillsborough Garden Club and the generosity and kindness of its members. My growing involvement in the Club's activities reflects this deep appreciation, as well as my respect for the commitment of its leadership. I look forward to another year with pleasure.
